Empty Promises

Herbert Armstrong wrote a lot of booklets which made promises — actual and implied. When we go back through and review the booklets he and his staff wrote in the light of what has actually happened, it is clear that the great swelling promises and prognostications were profoundly empty. Looking back, the booklets now seem crassly hypocritical. The Radio Church of God, Herbert Armstrong and the Worldwide Church of God never measured up to the very standards they set.

Those of us who are a little long in the tooth have experienced the fund-raising techniques and mind-control psychology employed by Herbert W. Armstrong chapter 3 excerpts below bring out. Those who have never been subject to these diabolical mind manipulations can’t relate to what is being discussed here, but are only able to parrot their standard retort of “Get over it! The man is dead and buried!” Would to God that the man’s strangle-hold on the minds of countless thousands of those who still believe the “truths” he taught was also dead and buried!

Herbert Armstrong. Pioneer of Religious Broadcasting?

Much has been made of Herbert W. Armstrong’s early radio career. He and his followers have claimed that he was one of the first religious broadcasters, beginning his career in 1933. Since commercial radio broadcasting in the United States began in the early 1920’s, it seemed unlikely to me that he could be a pioneer in the field. Thanks to the Internet, it is easy to show that this claim of Armstrong’s, like many others, is a lie.
